The Butrint Foundation carried out a series of high-profile archaeological excavations and surveys on a grand scale in and around Butrint over a period of 18 years, much of it funded by very generous grants from the Packard Humanities Institute. The original data from the excavations comprises more than 40,000 written, drawn and photographic records. These are currently held at the Waddesdon Archive at Windmill Hill, Aylesbury, but they have now been digitised to make the Archive more widely accessible via this website.
As well as carrying out archaeological investigations, the Foundation’s research into previous scientific work at Butrint yielded a series of documentary collections which have been scanned and can now also be viewed online. Together, the two strands to the Foundation’s Butrint Archive provide a vast body of primary and secondary material for general interest and information and for academic research and reinterpretation.
The Butrint Archive is currently down for maintenance. We apologise for any inconvenience.
